WordPress 4.5 – named “Coleman” in honor of jazz saxophonist Coleman Hawkins – was released on 12th of April, 2016. It is the first major release for WordPress in 2016, and comes with many new exciting features.
In following section, we will look into what is available new in WordPress 4.5 and what you should go for after updating your websites.
This is major WordPress release and if you are not on managed WordPress hosting service, you will have to manually start the update.

Mobile websites are important! Since WordPress 4.5, the customizer is changed to responsive live previews for desktops, tablet, and mobile devices.
This feature will help WordPress users to live preview how the website will look on different devices such as tablets and mobile phones without the pain of switching tools which customizing their website.
Custom Logo Support
Custom logo was support was also introduced, to allow the developers to quickly change their logos into website’s code anywhere without any issue. It was a long awaiting feature as many premium WordPress themes already allow the users to change logos from theme options.
Optimized Image Scaling
Although responsive images were included in WordPress 4.4 as major feature which indeed allowed WordPress to display smaller image sizes to users on mobile phones and tablets, WordPress 4.5 took it into one level further. It will retain image quality when decreasing size up to 50% and increase performance.
For any website, the content is the king! Most WordPress users spend most of their time crafting quality content for their websites. This adds a lot of importance to visual editor and makes it one of the most important part in WordPress in term of user experience.
WordPress 4.5 added some awesome features to help the users to write less and more enjoyable.
Instead of opening a link popup, WordPress 4.5 allows users to insert links inline. Pressing CTRL+K shows an inline insert link menu, then simply type the URL and continue writing post without touching touching mouse.
Formatting shortcuts were introduced since WordPress 4.3. These shortcuts allow the users to quickly add formatting markups while writing posts.
WordPress 4.5 added few more such shortcuts like use of three of more dashes – to add a horizontal line. Users can also use backsticks at start and end of paragraph to add code.
Many online services like Google, Facebook, Twitter etc. allow the users to sign in by using both username and email address.
It is easy to forget password, but not email address. WordPress 4.5 allows users to sign in using either their username or email address.
