Weekly WordPress News: Google mobile-friendly testing tool, donation of wp.org and more

Weekly WordPress News

Welcome to our Weekly WordPress News section! There are many things happened since I wrote last weekly news updates. First of all, I was not able to write weekly news updates last week which is quite bad. I’ll try to write it on weekly basis from now on.

One of the important news last week for WordPress community was the donation of domain WP.org to WordPress foundation by Syed Bakhi – the founder of WPBeginner. It is a commendable decision. He said in his blog post:

For majority of you, this doesn’t mean anything and life goes on as usual. For those who’re more involved in the WordPress community, this is a huge deal because now you can type wp.org in your Tweets, Slack messages, Facebook statuses, etc without cursing at me or WPBeginner.

Another important news, I would like to share here, is the launch of mobile-friendly testing tool by Google. Since then the company has announced that there are mobile searches on mobile than on desktop, mobile websites optimization has become an objective of it.

Some of you may heard and used existing Google’s webmaster tools like PageSpeed Insights and Mobile Friendly Testing but these are not very popular among the developer community. The new tool is great with simple and intuitive design, offers some unique features. Test your WordPress website now and see where you rank in term of page speed score. You may want to get detailed report about your website ranking indicators from Google by entering your email address.

At the end, lets talk about what was going on WPPaid and in WordPress community in last two weeks:
